President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally constituted the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections, placing former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari at the centre of the party’s campaign structure.

Yari, a former governor and senator, has been appointed Director-General of the 108-member council, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma will serve as Secretary.

The development was announced on Saturday in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

President Tinubu will serve as Chairman of the campaign council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima will occupy the position of Vice-Chairman I.

APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda was named Vice-Chairman II.

The structure also includes APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru as Deputy Secretary and Hadiza Bala-Usman as Assistant Secretary.

Senior party figures dominate council

The campaign structure brings together prominent APC politicians, serving governors, lawmakers and officials expected to coordinate the ruling party’s presidential campaign.

Among those listed as advisers are former APC National Chairman Bisi Akande, former Ogun State Governor Segun Osoba, former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Florence Ita-Giwa.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni were assigned deputy director-general roles for the northern and southern zones.

Other senior figures given responsibilities include Adams Oshiomhole, Femi Gbajabiamila and James Faleke.

Faleke, who was involved in the APC’s previous presidential campaign, will oversee election planning, coordination and monitoring.

Media and mobilisation structure

The council also contains a dedicated media and strategic communications structure.

Information and National Orientation Minister Mohammed Idris will serve as Coordinating Director for Media and Strategic Communication, working alongside Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu.

Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala and Felix Morka were named coordinating deputy directors.

Former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo is also among the personalities listed on the 108-member council.

The campaign structure further includes a five-member spokesperson team led by Dele Alake.

Tinubu charges council to secure victory

According to the statement announcing the council, Tinubu urged members to work towards securing victory for the APC in the 2027 presidential election.

The President also directed members heading various directorates to reach out to other party members who were not formally included in the council but could contribute to the campaign.

The unveiling marks a significant step in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential contest, with the ruling party now putting a formal campaign structure in place.

The election will ultimately determine whether the organisation can translate its political machinery into another presidential victory for Tinubu.
