Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye says he plans to challenge in court the appointment of Nigeria Revenue Service Chairman Zacch Adedeji to a fundraising position in President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign council.
Melaye announced the planned legal action after the APC released its presidential campaign council, which includes Adedeji as Deputy Director of Fundraising.
Melaye raises conflict-of-interest concerns
The former senator questioned whether the head of the country’s revenue-collecting agency should simultaneously occupy a political campaign position responsible for fundraising.
Melaye argued that Adedeji’s public responsibilities could create a potential conflict with his role in Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
He disclosed his intention to approach the court in a video posted on his social media account.
The ADC chieftain also criticised the decision to make Tinubu chairman of the APC presidential campaign council, questioning whether the President should simultaneously lead the political structure campaigning for his re-election.
Campaign council unveiled
The controversy emerged after the APC formally released its campaign structure for the 2027 presidential election.
President Tinubu is chairman of the council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda are vice chairmen.
Former Zamfara Governor Abdulaziz Yari was appointed Director-General, with Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma serving as secretary.
Adedeji’s inclusion in the fundraising structure has now become a subject of political criticism, with Melaye promising to test the legality of the appointment in court.
At the time of reporting, the proposed lawsuit remained an announcement by Melaye; it should therefore not be described as an existing court judgment or established legal violation.
