Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has appealed to Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office.
Bello said the administration deserves the opportunity to consolidate the reforms introduced since Tinubu assumed office, describing some of the decisions taken by the government as difficult but necessary for Nigeria’s long-term future.
The former governor’s position adds to the growing stream of endorsements and political arguments surrounding Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
Supporters of the administration have continued to defend the president’s economic policies, particularly the removal of petrol subsidy and changes to the foreign-exchange regime, while opposition figures have criticised the impact of the reforms on households.
Bello’s appeal centres on continuity, with the former governor arguing that Nigeria needs stability to allow ongoing policies and reforms to mature.
The 2027 election campaign has already begun, putting the Tinubu administration’s economic and governance record at the centre of the emerging political contest.
With opposition parties also intensifying their campaigns, Nigerians are expected to hear competing arguments over whether the current administration should be given another term or replaced in 2027.
