Lecturers at Plateau State University, Bokkos, have commenced an indefinite strike following what the university’s Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter described as the failure of management to satisfactorily address its demands.
The union announced the industrial action after its 14-day ultimatum to the university administration expired.
ASUU-PLASU said its members would suspend academic activities until further notice, describing the strike as total and comprehensive.
Among the union’s demands are the commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme, implementation of the 2025 Federal Government/ASUU agreement and payment of outstanding arrears dating back to January 2026.
The lecturers are also demanding improved staff accommodation, the construction of trenches around the university’s perimeter fence and an end to what they described as intimidation of union leaders.
Another demand involves payment of 22 months’ arrears relating to the 25/35 per cent wage award.
The university and Plateau State Government had not, at the time of the latest report, issued a response to the strike.
The development could disrupt academic activities at the institution if the dispute is not resolved.
