The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has challenged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to engage Nigerians directly on the performance of his administration ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Obi said the President should come out of the Presidential Villa and openly defend his administration’s policies, programmes and record before the Nigerian people.
The former Anambra State governor has repeatedly advocated greater accountability and public engagement from political leaders, particularly as the country approaches another presidential election.
His latest challenge comes as political parties and presidential candidates begin intensifying their campaigns and positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 contest.
Obi’s call for a debate adds to growing demands from opposition politicians for presidential candidates to publicly explain their plans for the economy, security, employment and other major national concerns.
President Tinubu and his political allies have continued to defend the administration’s record, pointing to ongoing reforms and infrastructure investments as evidence of progress.
The 2027 election is expected to produce another closely watched contest, with the economy and the direction of governance likely to remain central campaign issues.
