President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday met behind closed doors with governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting brought together members of the Progressives Governors Forum at a time when the ruling party is intensifying preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The governors arrived at the State House after participating in a separate meeting of the National Economic Council chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The meeting with Tinubu began shortly before 4pm, according to reports, although the agenda was not immediately disclosed.
The engagement comes only eight days after the official commencement of campaigns for the 2027 general election under the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
It also comes five days after the APC unveiled its presidential campaign council, naming former Zamfara State Governor and serving senator Abdul’aziz Yari as Director-General.
The timing of the meeting has therefore placed political coordination and election preparations at the centre of attention.
APC governors remain critical to the ruling party’s nationwide political machinery because of their influence over party structures and mobilisation across the states.
Although the details of Tinubu’s discussions with the governors were not immediately made public, the gathering provides an opportunity for the President and the governors to coordinate political strategy as the 2027 contest takes shape.
The meeting also comes amid increasing political realignments and heightened activity among opposition parties.
