Former Bayelsa State Governor and national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has called on members of the opposition party to close ranks as preparations intensify for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.
Dickson’s appeal came after a series of meetings with NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi, his running mate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and other senior party figures.
The former governor said the discussions focused on matters concerning the party, the country and preparations for the formal unveiling of the party’s campaign structure.
According to Dickson, the stage has reached a point where stakeholders, aspirants and party members must work collectively rather than allow internal disagreements to undermine the party’s electoral ambitions.
He urged members to unite and support the party’s candidates at all levels.
OPPOSITION COORDINATION
The call comes as opposition parties and political figures intensify consultations ahead of the 2027 elections.
The NDC is positioning the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket as an alternative to the ruling APC and President Bola Tinubu.
The party’s leadership has faced the challenge of coordinating politicians and supporters from different political backgrounds while maintaining a unified campaign message.
Dickson’s intervention reflects the importance of internal cohesion as the party moves towards a more structured campaign operation.
MEETINGS WITH OBI AND KWANKWASO
Dickson disclosed that he had held discussions with Obi and Kwankwaso alongside the NDC national chairman and other party leaders.
He said the meetings were part of continuing consultations on national issues and the organisation of the party ahead of the 2027 election.
The former governor also appealed to aspirants and other stakeholders to put aside differences and work towards a common objective.
With the election approaching, the ability of the NDC to maintain unity across its various political interests is likely to become an important factor in its campaign.
