Admission Seekers Will No Longer Need To Pay Repeated Verification Charges
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have introduced a new arrangement requiring candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions to pay a one-off fee of N4,000 for verification of their WASSCE O’Level results.
The two examination bodies announced the arrangement in a joint statement on Tuesday.
Candidates To Pay Once
Under the new system, candidates whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB will verify their WAEC results through the JAMB Verification Service platform.
The N4,000 payment will be made once, after which the verified result will be made available to the relevant tertiary institution.
JAMB and WAEC said candidates would not be required to pay another verification fee for the same result.
Institutions Directed To Use Verified Results
The two bodies also directed tertiary institutions to use the verified results supplied by JAMB for admission screening, processing and other approved administrative purposes.
WAEC has authorised JAMB to share the outcome of the verification exercise with relevant institutions.
The bodies said the arrangement was designed to reduce the financial burden and stress associated with candidates repeatedly verifying their results at different institutions.
Candidates Can Verify From Home
The new system is also expected to reduce physical visits to institutions and JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test centres.
Candidates can initiate the verification process through the approved JAMB platform from home or another internet-enabled location.
The policy is particularly significant for candidates seeking admission into multiple institutions, because they will no longer need to repeat the same WASSCE verification process at each institution.
