Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has predicted that former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi will ask his supporters to boycott the 2027 presidential election before 11am on election day if he becomes convinced that he is heading for defeat.
Wike made the claim on Saturday while speaking about the political prospects of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The FCT minister, who has remained a vocal critic of Amaechi’s presidential ambition, said the former Rivers governor would struggle to secure meaningful electoral support in the state and other parts of the country.
Wike Mocks Amaechi’s Political Prospects
According to Wike, the political contest ahead of 2027 would expose the weakness of Amaechi’s political structure.
He predicted that once Amaechi realised he was losing, he would allegedly resort to asking his supporters not to participate in the election.
The minister said he expected such a decision to happen early on election day, before 11am.
Wike’s comments were part of his continuing criticism of the ADC ticket involving Atiku and Amaechi.
The former Rivers governor is Atiku’s running mate on the ADC presidential ticket, making Wike’s comments particularly significant given the political history between the two men.
Rivers Remains A Major Political Battleground
The dispute between Wike and Amaechi has continued to dominate political conversations in Rivers State.
Both men previously governed the state and have maintained opposing political positions in the years since Amaechi left office.
Wike has since become FCT minister under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while Amaechi joined the opposition ADC and emerged as Atiku’s running mate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The relationship between their political camps is therefore expected to remain a major feature of the campaign.
Wike’s Claim Remains A Prediction
There is currently no evidence that Amaechi has announced plans to boycott the 2027 election or instruct his supporters to stay away from the polls.
Wike’s statement is therefore a political prediction and should not be treated as an established decision by Amaechi or the ADC.
With the election still ahead, both camps are expected to intensify their mobilisation and campaign activities.
Wike’s latest remarks further demonstrate the increasingly combative nature of the 2027 political contest.
