Supporters of the All Progressives Congress have turned out in large numbers in Abia State as the ruling party stepped up mobilisation for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.
The gathering formed part of the APC’s growing political activities in the South-East as the party seeks to strengthen its grassroots structure ahead of the next presidential election.
APC Mobilises Supporters
Party members and supporters gathered to demonstrate their support for Tinubu and the APC.
The mobilisation comes as the ruling party intensifies efforts to expand its presence in Abia, where the Labour Party currently controls the state government under Governor Alex Otti.
APC leaders have repeatedly expressed their intention to challenge the Labour Party’s dominance in the state during the next electoral cycle.
Tinubu’s South-East Strategy
The South-East remains a key area of political competition ahead of 2027.
Tinubu’s administration has sought to strengthen its relationship with political leaders and communities in the region through infrastructure projects, economic initiatives and political engagement.
The APC has also been working to consolidate its structures across the five South-East states.
Abia Emerging As Political Battleground
Abia is expected to attract significant political attention ahead of 2027.
The APC has previously held major mobilisation exercises in the state, with party leaders saying they intend to expand the party’s electoral footprint.
In previous rallies, party officials have said the objective is not simply to support Tinubu at the presidential level but also to position the APC as a stronger force in the state.
Opposition Faces APC Challenge
The political contest in Abia is likely to intensify as the election approaches.
While the APC is seeking to build momentum, opposition parties and the Labour Party remain important forces in the state.
The latest rally therefore represents another step in the early mobilisation for the 2027 election.
