Former United States President Joe Biden has provided a fresh update on his health, saying the radiation treatment he underwent last year for prostate cancer worked as intended.
Biden, 83, made the disclosure in a social media post marking Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, using his personal experience to encourage men to speak with their doctors about cancer screening.
The former president said the treatment had enabled him to continue with activities that matter to him, including work on his forthcoming memoir.
Biden also recalled that his cancer had already spread to his bones by the time it was detected and urged people not to postpone conversations with their doctors.
He expressed appreciation to the doctors, nurses and other medical professionals who have continued to care for him.
His remarks have renewed public discussion about prostate cancer awareness and the importance of early detection.
Biden is expected to publish his memoir, Promise Me, America, in November.
