The Federal Government has confirmed the full payment of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) to academic staff in federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education for the period covering January to August 2026.
Minister of Education, Dr Olatunji Alausa, announced the development on Wednesday during the inauguration of the Ministerial Committee on Accreditation.
The allowance is designed to support academic staff with the cost of essential tools and materials required for teaching, research and other academic responsibilities.
The payment represents an eight-month period and comes amid broader efforts by the Federal Government to address welfare concerns within Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
The government has continued to face pressure from stakeholders to improve funding, infrastructure and working conditions across federal institutions.
The education ministry has also been pursuing reforms aimed at strengthening accreditation standards and improving the quality of teaching and learning.
The latest payment is therefore expected to form part of the government’s wider effort to improve the working environment for academic staff.
A report published on the development also confirmed that the government had announced full payment of the allowance.
