The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to upload and use the modified digital logo of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The development settles a dispute between the political party and the electoral commission over which version of the NDC logo should appear on INEC’s records and election-related materials.
NDC National Leader and former Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, announced the judgment in a statement posted on his official social media account.
According to Dickson, the party’s National Executive Council had approved the modified logo contained in its constitution and submitted it to INEC.
He said the electoral commission initially uploaded the modified logo but later reverted to the association’s original logo without communicating a reason to the party.
The NDC subsequently approached the court seeking an order compelling INEC to recognise the constitutionally approved version.
Justice J. O. Abdulmalik ordered the commission to forthwith upload and utilise the modified digital logo, according to reports on the ruling.
Dickson welcomed the judgment and described it as a judicial vindication of the party’s position.
He also directed NDC candidates and members to begin using the approved logo on campaign materials, including posters, banners and other publicity materials.
The party leader urged members not to panic over the development, saying there was sufficient time to transition to the modified identity before the 2027 general election.
The ruling is likely to assume greater significance as political parties intensify preparations for the next electoral cycle.
