National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, has clarified that he does not belong to either the Obidient or Kwankwasiyya political movements.
Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State, made the clarification during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme.
The NDC leader said his political identity was firmly tied to the party and rejected attempts to place him within either of the support movements associated with the party’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
“I’m not a member of Kwankwasiyya. I’m not a member of Obidient. I am NDC,” Dickson said, according to reports of the interview.
He nevertheless acknowledged that the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya groups have their own identities and constitutional rights to operate independently.
Dickson said Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso remained the NDC’s presidential candidate and running mate respectively, arguing that the overriding objective should be to win the 2027 election.
He urged supporters associated with the different political movements to concentrate on mobilising voters rather than becoming distracted by internal disagreements.
The former Bayelsa governor said the party had resolved its major questions around its candidates and was now focused on the wider political contest.
He described the relationship between the NDC and the two support groups as part of a broader political partnership aimed at securing victory in 2027.
