Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar, has begun grassroots consultations in Zamfara State as the APC intensifies preparations for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign.

Yari commenced the mobilisation exercise in his hometown, Talata Mafara, where he met APC stakeholders and urged party members to begin working at the grassroots to secure a strong electoral showing for the party in the 2027 general elections.

The former Zamfara governor said beginning the consultations in his home state was deliberate, with the objective of ensuring that Zamfara becomes one of the states recording the strongest support for Tinubu and the APC.

Current reporting confirms that Yari began the consultations in Talata Mafara and called on party supporters to mobilise voters across the grassroots.

Mobilisation Begins at Home

Addressing party stakeholders at his residence, Yari emphasised the importance of building support from the local level rather than waiting until the final stages of the election campaign.

The approach reflects the traditional importance of grassroots political structures in Nigerian elections, where ward, local government and state-level mobilisation can determine turnout and ultimately influence electoral outcomes.

Yari’s political influence in Zamfara gives the exercise additional significance.

He served as governor of the state between 2011 and 2019 and currently represents Zamfara West in the Senate.

His decision to launch the campaign from Talata Mafara therefore places his political base at the centre of the APC’s early mobilisation efforts.

APC Targets Zamfara

Zamfara is strategically important to the APC’s northern political calculations.

The state has traditionally been a competitive political environment, and its voters will be courted aggressively by the major presidential camps as the 2027 election approaches.

Yari’s message to party members was focused on organisation, mobilisation and electoral commitment.

Rather than treating the election as a contest that can be won through national-level campaigning alone, the APC campaign leadership is increasingly emphasising direct engagement with communities and voters.

The strategy also comes as opposition parties build their own structures across the North.

The emerging opposition coalition around the NDC has identified northern states as crucial to its presidential ambitions, meaning the APC cannot take its traditional support base for granted.

Political Contest Already Underway

Although the 2027 election remains ahead, political parties have already begun laying the groundwork for their campaigns.

The APC is seeking to defend the presidency while opposition parties are attempting to build a coalition capable of defeating the incumbent.

Yari’s mobilisation effort is therefore part of a much larger national campaign.

The former governor has previously spoken strongly about Tinubu’s chances and the importance of strengthening the president’s support base across northern Nigeria.

His latest move suggests that the APC Presidential Campaign Council is shifting increasingly toward constituency-level engagement.

For Zamfara, the immediate test will be whether the mobilisation can translate into stronger party structures and voter support.

For the APC nationally, the objective is broader: to establish an organised network capable of delivering votes for Tinubu across the state and contributing to the president’s wider re-election strategy.

Yari’s consultations are expected to continue as the party expands its grassroots engagement ahead of 2027.
