Suspected bandits attacked a base of Operation Burst, a joint security outfit, along the Igbeti–Igboho axis in Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State early Sunday, setting fire to a patrol vehicle and part of the security facility.
The attack occurred between approximately 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on September 13, according to a security update cited by OyoInsight.
The attackers reportedly arrived in large numbers and opened fire on personnel at the base before fleeing the area.
Security personnel mobilised after receiving a distress call but reportedly arrived after the attackers had left.
No deaths reported
The available security update said no casualty was recorded in the attack.
However, the attackers allegedly succeeded in setting fire to a block within the security base and a patrol van.
Initial reports had raised questions over whether weapons or ammunition were taken during the attack, but the available security update did not establish that any arms were carted away.
Security agencies reportedly searched the surrounding area after the attackers withdrew.
Attempt to overrun security post
According to the security account, the attackers appeared to have targeted the security personnel and attempted to overrun the post.
