Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has predicted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure re-election in the 2027 presidential election by what he described as a “very wide majority.”
Omokri based his prediction on what he considers the President’s stronger political position compared with the circumstances surrounding the 2023 election.
Speaking about the approaching election, the former presidential aide argued that the political environment has changed considerably since 2023, with the ruling All Progressives Congress strengthening its structure and the Tinubu administration pointing to its reform agenda as part of its campaign narrative.
The ambassador-designate has previously predicted a comfortable Tinubu victory, citing what he described as the administration’s progress in areas including economic reforms, education and infrastructure, alongside the APC’s expanding political strength.
A confident prediction
Omokri’s forecast represents one of the strongest public expressions of confidence from a prominent Tinubu supporter ahead of the 2027 election.
The prediction comes amid increasingly intense political realignment, with opposition parties and politicians working to build a coalition capable of challenging the incumbent.
The emergence of the African Democratic Congress as a platform for opposition figures has further complicated the political landscape, while former presidential candidates and political leaders continue to negotiate alliances.
Omokri, however, has argued that the opposition’s difficulties could work in Tinubu’s favour.
The election remains undecided
Despite Omokri’s confidence, the 2027 election remains more than a year away and no political forecast can determine the final result.
Nigeria’s presidential elections are shaped by turnout, regional voting patterns, party structures, candidate selection, economic conditions, campaign performance and events that can alter voter sentiment during the final months of a campaign.
Tinubu will therefore have to defend his record in office while opposition candidates will seek to turn public dissatisfaction over economic pressures and governance challenges into electoral support.
Omokri’s prediction is ultimately a political assessment rather than an established electoral outcome.
The coming months are expected to provide a clearer indication of whether the APC’s organisational advantage will translate into the broad national support predicted by the ambassador-designate.
