The Progressive Governors Forum said APC governors would not support or endorse candidates outside the party and pledged to work towards President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election.
The decision was reached during a high-level meeting of APC governors as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 elections.
The governors’ position is a direct response to attempts by opposition politicians to build a broad coalition capable of challenging the APC at the presidential and state levels.
The opposition has been exploring various alliance arrangements, including discussions around presenting a single presidential candidate against Tinubu.
For the APC, maintaining the loyalty of its governors will be critical to the party’s electoral strategy, given their influence over state structures, grassroots mobilisation and campaign machinery.
The governors have also pledged to take greater responsibility for Tinubu’s re-election efforts within their respective states.
