African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has unveiled an ambitious economic and social agenda that includes a N500,000 monthly living minimum wage, 24-hour electricity and free education.
Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has promised to introduce a monthly living minimum wage of N500,000 if elected president in the 2027 general elections.
Sowore also pledged to pursue 24-hour electricity, make education free and accessible at all levels, construct one million public mixed-income homes and reform Nigeria’s tenancy system.
The activist outlined the proposals in an interview with Independent, presenting them as key components of the AAC’s programme for the 2027 election.
Sowore has argued that Nigeria’s current minimum wage is inadequate to meet the basic needs of workers and families.
His proposed N500,000 wage would represent a substantial increase from the current national minimum wage and would have significant implications for employers, government finances and the cost of labour if implemented.
Beyond wages, Sowore said an AAC-led government would pursue continuous electricity supply, arguing that reliable power is fundamental to industrial production, small businesses and household welfare.
He also proposed free education across all levels and a major public housing programme designed to provide one million mixed-income homes.
On housing, the AAC candidate has linked the proposed reforms to Nigeria’s rental crisis, particularly the burden created by demands for several years of rent upfront.
Sowore’s programme places economic redistribution, public services and social welfare at the centre of his 2027 campaign.
The proposals will now face the broader test of electoral viability, funding and implementation as parties and candidates increasingly unveil their policy platforms ahead of the election.
