The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology says it will continue to promote access and support for visually impaired students and others living with disabilities.
The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that people living with disabilities are included in its admission and welfare programmes.
The university gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by members of the Nigeria Association of the Blind, South-West Zone.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Razaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu said the institution remained committed to creating an environment in which students with disabilities could participate fully in university life.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Management and Operations, Professor Tunde Ogunkunle, who received the delegation on behalf of the vice-chancellor, also emphasised the importance of inclusion to the institution’s broader educational mission.
According to the university, its commitment to inclusion extends beyond admission to the welfare and academic experience of students living with disabilities.
The engagement with representatives of the Nigeria Association of the Blind provided an opportunity for the institution to discuss the needs and challenges faced by visually impaired students.
Inclusive access to higher education remains a significant issue in Nigeria, where people living with disabilities can face barriers involving physical infrastructure, learning materials, communication and access to support services.
LAUTECH’s position places accessibility alongside academic performance as part of the institution’s responsibilities to its students.
The university said its approach to inclusion forms part of the broader standards it seeks to maintain as a higher-education institution.
