The Kogi State Police Command has presented Group Life Assurance cheques worth N18.18 million to families of police officers who died in the line of duty.
The Kogi State Police Command has presented cheques totalling N18,186,438.25 to families of police officers who died while serving the country.
The payment was made under the Nigeria Police Force’s Group Life Assurance programme, a welfare initiative designed to provide financial support to families of personnel who lose their lives in active service.
The presentation took place at the headquarters of the Kogi State Police Command in Lokoja.
Commissioner of Police Naziru Kankarofi presented the cheques on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
The intervention is part of the wider welfare structure of the Nigeria Police Force, under which families of deceased officers receive financial assistance following the loss of their relatives in the line of duty.
For the beneficiaries, the payment represents financial support following the death of family members whose service involved significant personal risk.
The Group Life Assurance programme has previously been used by the police in Kogi and other states to provide financial assistance to families of fallen officers. Earlier disbursements in Kogi have similarly been made to next of kin under the police welfare framework.
The latest presentation also highlights the continuing welfare obligations of the police authorities towards families left behind by officers who die during service.
Beyond the financial assistance, such payments form part of efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to provide institutional support to the families of deceased personnel and recognise the service rendered by officers who lost their lives in the course of duty.
The Kogi Command has continued to emphasise the importance of personnel welfare as part of efforts to support serving officers and their families.
