The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reported recovering ₦1.233 trillion between October 2023 and July 2026, alongside $684.48 million in foreign currency recoveries, as the agency continues its enforcement activities under Chairman Ola Olukoyede.

The commission also reported securing 10,872 convictions during the period under review.

The figures form part of the EFCC’s reported enforcement performance, covering investigations, prosecutions, asset recovery and related activities.

Reported Recovery Figures

The commission reported the following recoveries:

CurrencyReported amount
Nigerian naira₦1.233 trillion
US dollars$684.48 million
British pounds£373,905.78
Euros€9.34 million

The reported figures cover recoveries associated with the EFCC’s enforcement activities. The precise classification, recovery dates and beneficiary arrangements should be established through the commission’s official records.

Recovery for Government and Other Beneficiaries

The EFCC reported that approximately ₦397.26 billion was recovered directly for the Federal Government, while about ₦836.35 billion was recovered on behalf of ministries, departments and agencies, state revenue authorities, companies, individuals and other beneficiaries.

This distinction is relevant because reported recoveries may involve funds belonging to different beneficiaries and are not necessarily equivalent to money available for unrestricted government expenditure.

The use, restitution and release of recovered funds depend on the applicable legal and administrative processes.

Convictions and Investigations

The commission reported receiving 49,673 petitions, investigating 39,615 cases and filing 14,476 cases in court during the period covered by its stewardship figures.

It also reported 10,872 convictions.

These figures describe separate stages of enforcement activity. Petitions, investigations, court filings and convictions should not be treated as interchangeable measures.

A conviction represents a judicial outcome in an individual case, while a recovery concerns the return or securing of assets or funds through relevant legal procedures.

Asset Recovery and Public Accountability

Asset recovery is a major component of the EFCC’s anti-corruption mandate.

The effectiveness of recovery efforts depends not only on the amount secured but also on the lawful management of recovered assets, restitution to rightful beneficiaries and transparency in the use of public funds.

The commission’s reported figures provide an overview of its activities during the stated period. Independent scrutiny of the recovery process and judicial outcomes remains important to public accountability.

Continuing Enforcement

The EFCC’s activities cover financial crimes, including fraud, money laundering, cybercrime and other offences within its statutory mandate.

The commission’s reported results should be understood within the wider legal and institutional framework governing investigations, prosecutions, forfeiture and restitution.

The reported recoveries and convictions represent the agency’s stated performance figures. Individual cases must continue to be assessed on the evidence and decisions applicable to each matter.
