Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has urged Nigerians to remain hopeful, patriotic and committed to the collective effort to build a stronger and more prosperous country.
Makinde made the call on Sunday at a special thanksgiving service held at the Cathedral of St Peter, Aremo, Ibadan, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The governor, who was represented by the Oyo State Head of Service, Dr Adenike Fasina, congratulated Nigerians on the anniversary and called for greater individual and collective contributions to national development.
‘Everyone Has a Role to Play’
Makinde said the development of Nigeria could not be left to government alone, stressing the importance of citizens contributing to the country’s progress in whatever capacity they can.
“Individual efforts, no matter how small, can make a significant difference when combined with the contributions of citizens across the country towards moving the nation forward,” he said.
The governor encouraged Nigerians to maintain a positive outlook despite the difficulties confronting the country and to remain committed to the work of building a better future.
Call for National Commitment
Makinde’s message centred on patriotism, civic responsibility and collective action as Nigeria commemorates another year of independence.
He said citizens should continue to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the country while maintaining hope in Nigeria’s future.
The thanksgiving service provided an opportunity for political, religious and community leaders to reflect on the country’s journey since independence and to offer prayers for its continued peace and development.
The governor’s remarks come amid ongoing national discussions around economic pressures, security challenges and the responsibilities of both government and citizens in addressing Nigeria’s development needs.
