Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, a member of the House of Representatives representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency, has expressed appreciation to political figures who contacted him about the condition of his father, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Bello specifically mentioned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso among those who reached out to ask about his father.
In a video shared online, Bello said Peter Obi had repeatedly contacted him to inquire about Nasir El-Rufai’s welfare. He said the gesture was particularly significant because he had previously been critical of Obi.
Bello Highlights Obi’s Calls
Bello described the experience as a personal lesson, noting that political disagreements had previously shaped his public relationship with some of the individuals who reached out.
He said Obi’s repeated calls stood out to him because of his own earlier criticism of the former Anambra governor.
The comments provide a personal account of political figures reaching across party and ideological lines to express concern about a political rival facing legal difficulties.
Other Politicians Also Contacted Family
According to Bello, Atiku, Amaechi and Kwankwaso also contacted him about his father.
Reports of his remarks said the politicians sought information about Nasir El-Rufai’s condition and circumstances while he remained involved in ongoing legal proceedings.
The outreach comes against the background of the former Kaduna governor’s ongoing legal battles following his detention by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
The ICPC confirmed in February 2026 that El-Rufai was in its custody in connection with an investigation.
