Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to late President Muhammadu Buhari, has declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Ahmad, who served as Buhari’s aide on new media, expressed his position in a post on his official X account, writing: “We will re-elect Tinubu!”
His declaration adds to the growing political discussion surrounding the next presidential election as political figures and groups state their positions and begin preparing for the contest.
Focus on the North-West
Ahmad’s statement comes days after he highlighted the North-West as a potentially consequential region in the 2027 election because of its large number of registered voters.
The region comprises Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states.
Its electorate makes it an important area of focus for political parties and candidates seeking nationwide support. However, the size of a region’s registered electorate alone does not determine how its voters will ultimately vote.
Political Activity Ahead of 2027
Tinubu’s prospective re-election bid is expected to feature prominently in political discussions as parties and prospective candidates build alliances and engage voters.
Ahmad’s declaration represents his stated political position. It does not establish the level of public support for the President or determine the outcome of the election.
