The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Nigeria has appointed Mr S.D. Kum as its new Head of National Office, with the appointment scheduled to take effect on Friday, October 2, 2026.
Kum previously served as Senior Deputy Registrar and Head of Test Administration at WAEC Nigeria.
He succeeds Dr Amos Dangut, who was appointed Registrar of WAEC International in June 2026, according to the information supplied in the announcement.
Dangut’s new role places him at the council’s regional level, with his formal assumption of office also scheduled for October 2 at WAEC’s international headquarters in Accra, Ghana.
Leadership Transition
The appointment comes as WAEC continues its work coordinating examinations and assessment across participating West African countries.
The Head of National Office is responsible for overseeing the council’s operations within Nigeria, including matters relating to examination administration and engagement with relevant education stakeholders.
Kum’s previous role in test administration provides direct experience in one of the council’s central operational functions.
Continuity in Examination Administration
The leadership transition is significant for schools, candidates and education authorities that rely on WAEC examinations for academic progression and certification.
However, the appointment announcement alone does not indicate any immediate change to examination schedules, grading policies or certification procedures.
Students and schools should continue to rely on official WAEC communications for updates concerning examinations and other administrative matters.
