The Anambra State Government has urged voters, particularly supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), to reject Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), in the 2027 general election.

The call was issued through the official X account managed by the New Media office of Governor Charles Soludo on Monday.

The state government accused Obi, who governed Anambra from 2006 to 2014 under APGA, of working against the party since leaving it. It also claimed that President Bola Tinubu had demonstrated support for APGA.

Government accuses Obi of weakening APGA

The government argued that APGA supporters should protect the party’s political identity and resist what it described as efforts to undermine the organisation.

The statement represents the position of the Soludo administration and APGA-aligned political interests in Anambra.

Obi has not been quoted in the reports reviewed responding specifically to the latest statement.

2027 contest intensifies

The development reflects the increasingly competitive political environment ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Obi, a former Anambra governor, has retained significant political visibility in the South-East since his 2023 presidential campaign, while Soludo remains associated with APGA’s political structure in the state.

The disagreement between the two camps is likely to remain a significant feature of Anambra politics as the election approaches.
