The Kwara State Government has announced plans to purchase shares in the ongoing Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals initial public offering (IPO) for selected female teachers in the state.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq announced the initiative during the state’s 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration in Ilorin.
He said the programme was designed to promote investment, financial inclusion and asset ownership among women teachers.
Under the proposed arrangement, the government said female teachers in outstanding public schools would benefit from the share-purchase initiative. The state also indicated that arrangements were being considered to extend the programme to outstanding retired female teachers.
The governor said the initiative was being developed in collaboration with the Aliko Dangote Foundation.
The Guardian reported that AbdulRazaq said the arrangement would provide 10 shares each for selected female teachers, while other reports gave further details on the proposed beneficiary structure. Final eligibility criteria and the full number of beneficiaries were still being worked out at the time of the announcement.
The initiative was announced alongside about ₦119.5 million in awards to outstanding teachers, school administrators, academics and schools across the state.
The programme is part of a broader push by the Kwara Government to link teacher welfare with professional development and economic empowerment.
