Apostle Sam Adegoke of Elijah Generation Church in Akure, Ondo State, has stepped back from public ministry after apologising to women with whom he says he had sexual relationships before his marriage.

Adegoke, who recently got married, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, saying he had withdrawn from public ministry and social media to reflect on his past conduct, seek counsel and make amends.

The cleric said he took responsibility for his actions and apologised to the women involved, as well as his wife, family, church members and others who had trusted him as a spiritual leader.

He acknowledged that his past conduct fell short of the standards of integrity and self-control expected of him as a minister.

Adegoke said he had been receiving pastoral and professional counselling and would continue to submit himself to accountability during the period of reflection.

He also appealed for prayers as he seeks to confront his past actions and demonstrate what he described as genuine repentance and change.

The women involved were not identified in his statement, and Adegoke did not provide further details about the relationships.
