Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has summoned the heads of security and law-enforcement agencies in the state for an emergency meeting following renewed killings linked to suspected cult clashes and other violent incidents.
The development comes amid growing concern over a series of violent incidents in parts of the state, including Osogbo, Ile-Ife and Ikire.
The governor’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, Samuel Ojo, said the emergency security discussions were convened to address the deteriorating security situation and prevent further loss of lives.
The meeting brought together representatives of major security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigerian Army, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and Amotekun Corps.
The move follows a suspected cult clash in Osogbo in which police authorities said two people were killed and four others sustained gunshot injuries.
Security concerns have also emerged in Ile-Ife following the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, amid a dispute linked to leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers.
Adeleke had directed security agencies to investigate the incidents and bring those responsible to justice.
The state government has maintained that it will not protect individuals found to have participated in the violence.
Ojo said the administration was not shielding anyone and that the law would take its course against anyone found culpable.
The latest security response also includes plans to strengthen intelligence gathering and coordination among security agencies operating across the state.
The renewed violence has generated anxiety among residents and traders, particularly in communities where cult-related disputes and transport-union conflicts have previously triggered deadly confrontations.
The governor’s intervention therefore places renewed emphasis on prevention, intelligence-led policing and rapid response as the state seeks to contain the situation before it escalates further.
Security agencies have been directed to intensify their operations, while residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with investigators.
