The President tells campaign loyalists that their work will not be complete until they secure votes across their respective wards as the ruling party intensifies preparations for the next general election.
President Bola Tinubu has urged his political supporters and campaign officials to focus on grassroots mobilisation and electoral performance, warning that their efforts will only count if they translate into votes in the 2027 general election.
The President delivered the message during the inauguration of his Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, where party leaders and political allies gathered to begin preparations for his re-election bid.
Addressing supporters, Tinubu acknowledged their contributions during the previous election but stressed that the next contest would require renewed commitment and measurable results.
“I thank all of you for the last election, but no one gets credit for an incomplete assignment until you deliver the next election, your wards and the votes,” the President was quoted as saying.
His remarks placed emphasis on the responsibility of campaign officials to mobilise voters in their local communities rather than rely on past electoral achievements or their positions within the campaign structure.
Focus shifts to grassroots mobilisation
Ward-level organisation remains an important component of Nigeria’s electoral campaigns, allowing political parties to engage voters, coordinate volunteers and communicate campaign messages within local communities.
Tinubu’s comments suggest that supporters will be expected to demonstrate their influence through voter mobilisation and electoral participation rather than merely holding campaign appointments.
The message also aligns with recent calls from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who warned political leaders against claiming victory if they failed to deliver their respective states for the President.
Together, the remarks highlight the importance the President’s campaign is placing on accountability within its political structures.
A test of campaign organisation
The APC Presidential Campaign Council includes party officials, serving public officeholders and political figures from other parties who have pledged support for Tinubu’s re-election.
The breadth of the campaign structure could provide access to different political networks, but its effectiveness will depend on coordination, local engagement and the ability to persuade voters.
Grassroots mobilisation alone cannot guarantee victory. Voters will also assess the administration’s record, economic conditions, security and the policy alternatives presented by competing candidates.
As the 2027 election approaches, campaign leaders will face increasing pressure to demonstrate that their political alliances can produce measurable support at the ballot box.
