The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to promptly address the omission of some of the party’s candidates from its published list ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dickson said the party had taken steps to resolve the issue and expressed confidence that the affected candidates would be included following the necessary corrective measures.

The former Bayelsa State governor made the appeal in a Facebook post, maintaining that all affected candidates had registered with the party within the statutory 21-day period stipulated by law.

He urged INEC to address what he described as an apparent omission, stressing that the party had fielded candidates across different levels of the electoral process.

According to Dickson, the NDC had conducted screening procedures for its candidates and was committed to ensuring that those who satisfied the relevant requirements were duly recognised.

He also urged party members and supporters to continue their political activities, including consultations, town hall meetings and grassroots mobilisation, while efforts to resolve the matter continued.

The development comes as political parties prepare for the 2027 general elections, with disputes over candidate lists and nomination processes emerging as important issues in the pre-election period.

INEC has faced calls from several political parties to address discrepancies involving candidates’ names on its published lists. However, the circumstances surrounding each omission may differ and require separate clarification.

Dickson’s appeal places the focus on the electoral commission’s responsibility to ensure that candidate information is accurately published and that legitimate complaints are addressed in accordance with the law.
