A tanker caught fire beneath the Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday, prompting an emergency response from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
The agency received a distress alert about the incident at approximately 4:24 p.m. and dispatched its Tiger response team to the scene, according to LASEMA spokesperson Olawale Afolabi.
Afolabi confirmed the deployment in a brief message to journalists, stating that the team was heading to Otedola Bridge following reports of the tanker fire.
The incident occurred along a major transport corridor connecting Lagos with neighbouring parts of the South-West, raising concerns about potential traffic disruption and the safety of motorists travelling through the area.
Tanker fires can pose significant risks to road users, nearby properties and emergency responders, particularly when the vehicle is carrying combustible fuel or other hazardous materials.
However, details about the tanker’s contents, the cause of the fire, possible casualties and the extent of damage were not immediately available in the initial reports.
Motorists approaching the area should exercise caution and follow instructions from emergency personnel as response operations continue.
Further details are expected as authorities assess the scene and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
