England captain and Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has won the 2026 Men’s Ballon d’Or, securing football’s most prestigious individual honour after an outstanding season for club and country.

Kane was announced as the winner at the 70th edition of the Ballon d’Or ceremony, held at the London Palladium in England on Monday, October 26.

The 33-year-old emerged ahead of a competitive field that included French forward Kylian Mbappé and Spanish teenage sensation Lamine Yamal.

Mbappé finished second, while Yamal placed third in the final rankings.

Kane’s victory represents a significant milestone in his career and makes him the first Englishman to win the men’s award since Michael Owen claimed it in 2001.

The Bayern Munich forward’s performances throughout the 2025/2026 campaign strengthened his position among the leading contenders, with his goalscoring consistency making him one of the most influential attacking players in European football.

His success also reflects the importance of individual contributions to team achievements, as Kane continued to play a central role in Bayern Munich’s pursuit of domestic and continental honours.

For years, Kane has been recognised as one of the most consistent goalscorers in the game, but the Ballon d’Or represents a new level of individual recognition for the England international.

The award is determined through a voting process involving football journalists from selected countries, who assess players based on their individual performances, achievements with their teams and overall contribution to the sport.

Kane’s triumph also places him among a select group of English footballers to have won the honour since its establishment in 1956.

The ceremony brought together leading figures from the global football community to celebrate the achievements of players and teams during the preceding season.

Kane’s victory is expected to strengthen his standing among the leading players of his generation, while the final rankings underline the continued competition among established stars and emerging talents.
