Prisoner holding metal cage in jail, no freedom concept

The Lagos State Police Command has remanded a 60-year-old man, identified as Ajayi Femi, after he allegedly drugged and raped a 24-year-old woman in the Meiran area of the state.

Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed on Monday that investigations revealed the suspect spiked the victim’s drink, leaving her unconscious before allegedly assaulting her on August 22, 2025. The case was first reported by the survivor’s sister at the Meiran Police Station and later transferred to the Gender Unit for further action.

Medical examinations carried out by the Gender Unit were said to have backed up the survivor’s claims, while the suspect reportedly confessed during interrogation. Following his admission, Femi has since been remanded in custody pending court proceedings.

“The Lagos Police Command is committed to pursuing justice for all survivors of sexual offences,” the statement read, underscoring the state’s zero tolerance for crimes of this nature.

This incident comes just weeks after another man, aged 45, was arrested in Ikotun for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl, a case that stirred public outrage and renewed calls from rights groups for tougher punishments for sex offenders.

The recurring incidents have sparked growing concerns among residents and human rights advocates, who insist that stronger measures must be enforced to protect vulnerable individuals from predatory attacks.
