A midnight downpour in Jigawa State turned tragic when a building collapsed in Kabak village, Kirikasamma Local Government Area, leaving one person dead and seven others injured.

The incident occurred on Friday after heavy rainfall swept through Kirikasamma and surrounding communities. Local authorities said the downpour weakened the structure, leading to its collapse in the middle of the night.

Confirming the tragedy, the council’s spokesman, Musa Muhammad, explained that five of the victims were admitted to hospital for treatment while two others sustained minor injuries and were discharged after receiving medical care. He added that, unfortunately, one person did not survive the collapse.

The chairman of the council, Muhammad Maji, visited the community to commiserate with the victims’ families. During his visit, he announced financial assistance, including ₦500,000 to cover the medical expenses of the injured and ₦100,000 in immediate relief for the bereaved family.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the council assured residents that further support would be provided as the affected families try to recover from the incident. The collapse has also reignited concerns over the dangers posed by seasonal torrential rains in northern Nigeria, which have been responsible for recurring cases of flooding and structural failures across rural communities.
