Paystack has suspended its Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, following the resurgence of allegations linked to several old social media posts that resurfaced online earlier this week.

The controversy reignited on November 12 after multiple screenshots of Olubi’s past tweets began trending on X (formerly Twitter). The posts which were made between 2009 and 2013, long before Paystack was established contained sexually explicit jokes, inappropriate remarks about colleagues, and disturbing references involving minors, bestiality, and sexualised animated characters. His X account was subsequently taken down after the posts resurfaced.

In a statement issued to TechCabal, the leading Nigerian fintech company confirmed that Olubi has been temporarily relieved of all duties.

“Paystack is aware of the allegations involving our Co-founder, Ezra Olubi. We take matters of this nature extremely seriously,” the company said. “Effective immediately, Ezra has been suspended pending the outcome of a formal investigation. To ensure the integrity of the process and protect all concerned, we will not comment further until the review is complete.”

Paystack added that it has set up a “fair, transparent, and structured” investigative mechanism to assess the claims in line with its corporate policies and workplace standards.

According to the firm, the review will be guided by its core values and its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all employees.

The investigation remains ongoing.
