Zenith Bank has confirmed that hackers breached its database and gained unauthorised access to limited customer information during a cyberattack.

The bank disclosed the incident in an email to customers on Tuesday, saying the information accessed included customers’ email addresses and phone numbers.

According to the bank, the incident formed part of a broader global cyberattack targeting organisations across different sectors.

Zenith Bank stressed that the breach involved limited customer information and said its banking services and digital channels remained secure and fully operational.

The financial institution said its incident response protocols and cybersecurity measures were activated immediately after the breach was discovered.

Customers warned against phishing

Zenith Bank urged customers to remain vigilant following the incident, particularly against phishing emails, text messages and phone calls.

The bank advised customers not to disclose sensitive security information such as passwords, Personal Identification Numbers, One-Time Passwords or other banking credentials.

The warning comes amid increasing cybercrime attempts targeting financial institutions and their customers.

Investigation ongoing

Zenith Bank said investigations into the incident are ongoing and reiterated its commitment to protecting customers’ information.

At the time of publication, there was no indication from the bank that customers’ banking passwords, PINs or OTPs had been compromised.

The incident highlights the growing cybersecurity risks facing financial institutions as attackers increasingly target large databases and digital infrastructure.
