Tragedy struck in Ilorin on Saturday, November 15, 2025, as a 12-year-old girl lost her life after falling into a domestic well while fetching water. The Kwara State Fire Service recovered the body following a rapid response to the incident.

The deceased, identified as Nabilat from Busari Alao Street in the Ikoyi community of Irewolede, Ilorin West Local Government Area, reportedly slipped while drawing water, causing her to tumble into the well.

Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, spokesperson for the fire service, confirmed that the brigade was alerted around 10:35 a.m. by a local resident, Mr. Mayowa. Firefighters immediately responded, recovered the girl’s body, and handed it over to her family.

Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He called on parents and guardians to be vigilant and advised against sending children to fetch water from domestic wells, stressing the importance of safety precautions to prevent similar accidents.
