A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Akure has arraigned a herder, Buba Usman, on allegations of unlawful grazing and the destruction of crops worth over N1.1 million in the Ondo State capital.
Usman was taken into custody by operatives of the Amotekun Corps and charged with two offences relating to open grazing and malicious damage to agricultural produce.
According to the prosecution counsel, O. F. Baba, the incident occurred on November 22, 2025, when the defendant allegedly led his livestock onto farmland in the Ileyo Community, along Isagba Pelebe Road. The land is said to belong to one Ayodele Adebowale.
Baba told the court that the animals destroyed several cultivated crops, including cassava, maize, tomatoes and other produce, amounting to a total estimated value of N1,115,000.
The alleged actions are said to violate Section 32(1) of the Ondo State Livestock Rearing and Grazing Regulation and Ranching Establishment Law, 2021, as well as Section 451 of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2006.
Usman pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Presiding magistrate T. I. Ayodele-James granted him bail in the sum of N700,000, requiring two sureties in the same amount.
The matter was adjourned to December 4 for further hearing.
