A South Korean court has sentenced a woman to four years in prison for blackmailing national team captain and Premier League star Son Heung-min.

The Seoul Central District Court delivered the judgment against the woman, identified in court records by her surname, Yang. She was found guilty of extorting 300 million won (about $200,000) from the Tottenham Hotspur forward in 2024.

According to reports from local media, Yang sent Son an ultrasound image, alleging she was pregnant with his child and threatening to publicise the claim unless he paid her. Investigators said she spent the money on luxury and designer items.

Prosecutors told the court that Yang attempted to demand an additional 70 million won earlier this year, prompting Son to formally report the matter to the police. Her arrest and subsequent indictment followed.
