United States President Donald Trump has announced that he ordered multiple US military strikes against Islamic State militants operating in northern Nigeria on Christmas Day, accusing the group of targeting and killing Christians.

Trump disclosed this in a post on his Truth Social platform, where he said the strikes were carried out at his directive as Commander-in-Chief. He alleged that the terrorists had been persecuting Christians at levels not seen for many years.

According to him, the operation involved what he described as “powerful and deadly” strikes against Islamic State fighters in the region, warning that earlier threats issued to the group had now been acted upon.

Trump said the US military executed the operation with precision, adding that his administration would not allow what he termed radical Islamic terrorism to thrive.

He praised the US armed forces for the strikes and reiterated his commitment to protecting Christians, ending his message with Christmas greetings.

For several months, Trump has repeatedly highlighted the situation of Christians in Nigeria. In November, he reportedly directed the US Secretary of Defense to prepare for possible action and warned that the United States could intervene militarily to protect Christian communities in Africa’s most populous nation.
