The eldest daughter of late gospel singer Omije Ojumi has opened up about the challenges her family faced, describing her mother as a resilient and principled woman who remained devoted to her children despite difficulties in her marriage.
Speaking on Wednesday at a service of songs held in honour of the deceased singer, her daughter, Jomiloju, paid a moving tribute, highlighting Ojumi’s unwavering commitment to her family and her determination to raise responsible children.
Jomiloju recalled that her mother consistently stood by her children, even during periods when their father was absent, noting that her life revolved around ensuring their moral upbringing and future success.
“She was always there for us, even when our father wasn’t,” she said. “Her focus was to make sure we turned out responsible and did better than she did in her marital journey.”
According to her, Ojumi was particularly passionate about education and made significant sacrifices to enrol her children in the best schools she could afford, believing it was the surest way to secure their future.
In an emotional moment during the tribute, Jomiloju also publicly pledged to uphold her mother’s wishes by taking responsibility for her younger brother and guiding him on the right path.
“I promised my mum that I will take care of my younger brother,” she said, adding that she would ensure he grows into the disciplined and prayerful son her mother envisioned.
Omije Ojumi, who was widely admired for her gospel music and personal testimony, passed away earlier this year, drawing tributes from fans, colleagues and members of the Christian community.
