President Bola Tinubu has declared that governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are the party’s leaders in their respective states across the federation.

Tinubu made the declaration during the official reception of Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, into the APC in Jalingo, the state capital.

The president, who was represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima, said Governor Kefas automatically assumes the position of APC leader in Taraba State following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling party.

According to Tinubu, the APC operates under the leadership of its governors at the state level, stressing that the party structure recognises elected governors as its highest authority within their domains.

The president also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Governor Kefas and his administration in delivering development to Taraba State, noting that the governor has demonstrated efforts to foster unity and manage the state’s diversity.

“I urge the people of Taraba State to rally behind the governor and support him to succeed,” Tinubu said.

He further expressed satisfaction with the defection of a governor from the North-East geopolitical zone, adding that the APC hopes to expand its influence in the region.

“I am pleased with the defection of a governor in the North-East, and I look forward to Adamawa and Bauchi joining the party at the centre,” the president added.
