The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of Kannywood actress Samha Inuwa over an alleged act of naira mutilation, following widespread public outrage sparked by a viral social media video.
The arrest was carried out by operatives of the EFCC’s Kano Zonal Directorate on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, after footage surfaced online allegedly showing the actress using Nigerian currency notes to clean mucus from her nose.
Sources within the commission disclosed that the video prompted immediate action, with investigators tracing the actress before placing her in custody for questioning.
Inuwa is currently being detained at the EFCC’s facility in Kano as investigations continue into the incident, which is said to contravene provisions of Nigerian law that prohibit the abuse and mutilation of the national currency.
The commission noted that the actress would be formally charged in court once investigations are concluded.
The EFCC has in recent months intensified enforcement against acts deemed disrespectful to the naira, warning that abuse of the country’s legal tender—whether through spraying, defacing or misuse—remains a punishable offence under Nigerian law.
