The lawmaker representing Obingwa-West State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jr., has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Erondu was formally received into the APC on Tuesday in Nenu, Obingwa Local Government Area, by former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Chris Akomas, alongside other party leaders.
Speaking at the event, the former Obingwa LGA Chairman said he defected with about 5,000 supporters, describing the move as one that would benefit his constituency and the state at large.
He pledged to continue what he described as effective representation and called on residents of Obingwa, Abia State and the South-East to support the APC. The lawmaker also declared his support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, commending the administration’s reform policies.
The defection comes amid sustained efforts by key APC figures, including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, to strengthen the party’s base in Abia State.
With the latest development, the PDP’s representation in the Abia State House of Assembly has dropped to two members, while the APC’s number has increased from one to three.
