Singer celebrates birth of son hours after defeat to Carter Efe, says child “worth more than any belt”
Nigerian street-pop artist Portable has announced the birth of his newborn son, revealing that his wife was in labour while he was in the ring for a celebrity boxing match in Lagos.
The singer shared the news on social media shortly after losing to Carter Efe at the “Chaos in the Ring” event held on May 1, 2026.
According to Portable, his wife, Omobewaji Ewatomi, delivered a baby boy during the period he was actively fighting in the bout. He described the timing as emotional, stating that while he had hoped to win a title belt, the birth of his child held greater significance.
“My wife just gave birth to a bouncing baby boy. I value that more than a belt,” the singer said, adding that material prizes could not compare to the arrival of a child.
The newborn’s arrival was also confirmed by his wife via social media, where she expressed gratitude for a safe delivery. Reports indicate the child has been named Jamal Iremide.
The development comes amid mixed emotions for the artist, who had earlier expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of the boxing match, alleging unfair judging.
Portable, known for his controversial public persona, has multiple children from previous relationships, and the latest birth adds to his growing family.
Despite defeat in the ring, the singer’s announcement marks a personal milestone, shifting focus from sporting disappointment to a significant family celebration.
