Cleric urges FCT minister to halt plans for private development of recreation area
Senior Pastor of Family Worship Centre, Abuja, Sarah Omakwu, has appealed to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to preserve the Jabi Lake recreation area for public use. The plea followed concerns over plans linked to private development of the site.
In a video shared online, Omakwu was seen kneeling as she urged the minister not to allocate the land, describing the location as a vital hub for exercise, social activities, and community gatherings.
The appeal comes amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Capital Territory Administration to partner with private firms to redevelop Jabi Lake into a tourism and leisure hub.
The development highlights growing public concern over the future of key recreational spaces in Abuja.
