Press freedom groups warn of rising impunity for attacks on media workers globally

A new report has revealed that about 85% of crimes committed against journalists go unpunished, highlighting widespread impunity for attacks on media professionals worldwide.

The findings, released by press freedom advocates, show that journalists continue to face threats, assaults, and killings with limited legal consequences for perpetrators in many countries. The report stresses that weak judicial systems and political interference remain key drivers of impunity.

It also notes that countries with ongoing conflict and fragile democratic institutions record the highest levels of unresolved cases involving violence against journalists, raising concerns over press freedom and accountability.

The report calls for stronger legal protections and urgent reforms to ensure justice for crimes against media workers.
