U.S. President Donald Trump has issued one of his strongest warnings yet to Iran, declaring that if he is assassinated by the Iranian regime, the United States would unleash an unprecedented military response. The remarks came after chants and banners calling for his death surfaced during funeral ceremonies for Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Tensions between Washington and Tehran have escalated sharply after President Donald Trump warned that any successful Iranian attempt to assassinate him would trigger overwhelming U.S. military retaliation.
The warning follows renewed anti-American rhetoric during the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, where mourners were seen carrying banners threatening Trump and chanting calls for revenge.
In a post on his Truth Social platform and subsequent remarks, Trump said he had already issued standing military instructions in the event Iran carries out an assassination against him.
According to the U.S. President, the American military is prepared to launch a devastating response if such a scenario occurs.
Trump claimed that “1,000 missiles are locked and loaded” and warned that Iran would face destruction on a scale “never seen before” should any attack against him succeed.
The statement comes amid heightened tensions after Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, vowed revenge for his father’s assassination, while crowds at the funeral publicly called for Trump’s death.
Relations between the United States and Iran have deteriorated significantly in recent months following military confrontations, reciprocal strikes and disputes over the Strait of Hormuz.
Although mediators have attempted to revive diplomatic engagement, both governments have continued exchanging threats, raising concerns about the possibility of a broader regional conflict.
Trump insisted the warning was intended as a deterrent, arguing that any attack on an American president would carry severe consequences.
Iranian officials have continued to accuse the United States of responsibility for the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, while Washington maintains it will respond decisively to any threat against U.S. leaders or interests.
Trump’s latest warning underscores the increasingly volatile relationship between Washington and Tehran at a time when diplomatic efforts remain fragile. With both sides hardening their rhetoric, international observers continue to monitor developments amid fears that another miscalculation could further destabilise the Middle East.
